Kapil Sharma, the funniest man on Indian Television, is back after a much required interlude of almost 8 months. His comeback has been with SONY TV’s latest show “Family Time with Kapil”. The Tinsel town had been talking about the possibility of such a show, and the actor-comedian had himself confirmed the News on Twitter a few days before the show’s first episode. His fans are super excited and were really looking forward to the light hearted comedy, as they too probably wanted a break from the overly dramatic saas-bahu serials. After a long wait they got a glimpse of Kapil, in his most loved role, ‘himself’. The ‘Firangi’ actor is back with many of his fellow comedians, but sadly, Sunil Grover won’t be on the show.
The downfall of Kapil Sharma
Last few months were probably very tough on the star. It was a wide spread rumour that his alcoholism was taking a toll on his health as well as his attitude. After a highly publicized mid-air squabble with his fellow comedian, Sunil Grover, again because of his drinking, Kapil was in the news for a long time and for all the wrong reasons. Soon after the departure of ‘Dr. Mashhoor Gulati’, the once so famous ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, lost its charm. But that wasn’t the only reason of the downfall of the show, as well as the actor. Kapil’s arrogant and unprofessional attitude was becoming a little too much to handle for the people around him. It was often reported that he cancelled many of his shows with Bollywood Stars at the eleventh hour. Kapil too, in a press conference accepted that all that was happening around him affected him so much that he just couldn’t cope with it, and it severely affected his health. Though many close friends of Kapil Sharma blame his girlfriend Ginni for his downfall.
Family Time with Kapil Sharma
But now, Kapil seems to have bravely put all this behind him and the new show comes with the hope that it would be all the more entertaining, lively and fresh. Though members from TKSS, like Navjot Singh Sidhu, Kiku Sharda and Chandan Prabhakar, would be returning to the small screen, there are many new things to look forward to in the ongoing show.
The format of the game show
In ‘Family Time with Kapil’, Kapil has a new co-host, thebeautiful and very attractive TV actress Neha Pendse. Neha is a popular face, having made quite an impression in the comedy serial, ‘May I Come in Madam?’. Kapil seems to be enjoying her presence and leaves absolutely no opportunity to flirt with her. Apart from the setup and the new co-host, the show’s theme too is different in the sense that there are games for the audience to participate in. And Sony TV is inviting Kapil’s fans to come to the studio and watch their favourite comedian perform live on the show. The participant needs to be above 4 years old, an Indian citizen and must have a nationality proof. The willing participants can register themselves on the SONY TV website.
My review of the show
I have been an ardent Kapil fan, and with his new show I had found a reason to go back to my TV set. His most simple and every-day-life jokes are so relatable, even on the saddest of days, his show would bring smile to my face. But sadly just like me, many viewers are sceptical about the newness of the show. Some are calling it cheap wine in a new bottle, while some are finding Kapil’s comedy, the same as ever. I too now find his flirty comments a little cheeky. If the grapevine is to be believed, Kapil is a little taken aback with the cold response his show has received. He is said to be melancholy with the response of the audience. With his comeback he was very positive that the show, with lots of wit and laughter would garner a favourable feedback.
The Kapil Sharma Magic
But then, its too early to predict the future of the show as well as Kapil. He didn’t have a very pleasant 2017, but lets hope he can turn the tables in 2018. With daily soaps on saas-bahus, nagins and absurd issues becoming so daunting, I wish Kapil can come up with something very fresh and innovative for his audience which has been laughing out loud at even the simplest of his jokes.
